Spa Placement
When you are considering a hot tub for your backyard project, one of the most important factors in choos- ing a spa for your family is where to place it. Where you place the tub in your yard will play a huge role in your future enjoyment, relaxation, care, and maintenance.
We know it’s not always possible, but in a perfect world, the placement of your hot tub will have at least 3’ of space all the way around it to allow access to all four sides of the tub for future maintenance and any repairs that should arise over the lifetime of your tub.
If you choose to build a deck or platform around the tub, or drop the tub into the ground for that flush, “built-in” look, that can certainly be accomplished. We ask that, going forward, you have us work directly with your landscape architect, deck builder, contractor, landscaper, etc., to help plan the placement and accessibility needed for the tub.
99% of the tub area that would require future service and maintenance is located inside the spa cabinet, directly below the topside control panel.
In certain instances, some manufacturers place pumps, controls, and plumbing in areas other than the front panel, which would require us to have full access to those areas of the tub as well. This will depend on the specific make and model of each tub, but it is a general rule of thumb across most hot tub manufacturers.
As for a platform or base for your tub to sit on, we always recommend a strong, level concrete pad. That will give you the most reliable and longest-lasting surface for your tub to sit on, and you have several options that will accommodate your tub being placed on them as well, if they are installed correctly.
You can place a spa on a reinforced deck. You can also place the spa on patio pavers, again, if they are in- stalled level and correctly. And you can also use what’s called an EZ Pad. It is an 8’ x 8’ PVC pad that is 2” thick and comprises four pieces, allowing the spa to sit level and secure with less effort and expense than con- crete. Ask your Sales Associate about the pricing and availability of the EZ Pad units.
